Mirego: The Mirechalet
By the team at Mirego
“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.” - Albert Einstein
Located in the Charlevoix mountains in Canada, the 3,000-square-foot chalet, known as the Mirechalet, has 15 beds, three bathrooms, optimized work areas to accommodate the teams, a living room with a view of the mountains, a stable internet connection, a coffee machine, a spacious shared kitchen, and much more.
The Mirechalet serves two purposes: we go for intense work sessions, when a team needs to isolate themselves and work intensively on a project and we use it for team celebrations, for instance when a team ships an app they have been working on for a long time. We work hard together, so we think it's important to celebrate our successes together. Our culture is very much like a family. People appreciate spending time with their colleagues outside work, and the chalet solidifies this culture.
One of Mirego’s key pillars is experimentation. We may not possess the key to infused science, but we do have a strong desire to innovate and reinvent conventions. The Mirechalet was born out of this spirit of experimentation. We first rented a chalet in the same area of Charlevoix, Québec for few weeks in 2015. We took several teams for work retreats and fell in love with the vibe, the scenery and the outcomes of these retreats. It allowed us to be very creative and productive. This experience inspired us to build our very own chalet for our team to use whenever they wanted. It serves as the ideal place for brainstorms and work blitzes. Who said you had to work behind a desk from 9-5 to be productive and get the job done? We sure didn’t. With the right tools and proper processes, locational constraints become irrelevant.
The Mirechalet reflects our desire to give our team a diversified work environment that has a positive impact on their happiness and productivity. For example, when you visit our offices in Montréal and Québec City, you’d notice that our offices are very spacious and full of day-light––everyone is sitting next to big windows. It almost seems like everything was designed to keep us happy and worry-less. The Mirechalet is no different. It's a work environment that helps to bring the best out of us: to both focus and relax.
