Consolidated Edison is one of the nation’s leading energy delivery companies with revenues over $12B and assets over $48B. We power the lives and livelihoods of 10 million people living in New York City and Westchester County. SinglePlatform: Leaders Let Others Shine
In 2010, I was working for DFJ Gotham Ventures and led the firm’s new investment in SinglePlatform, a software platform to help local merchants market themselves online. The founder, Wiley Cerilli, built an incredible team culture at the company. This culture was based on respect for each member of the team and on celebrating successes. Celebrating success included some measures you might see at other companies, such as a gong and later leaderboard for the sales team and many social events.
VirtualHealth: Diversity Takes a Leading Role
Since its inception, VirtualHealth has been dedicated to nurturing an employee-centric culture that places a high value on diversity. Notably, the company is comprised of 40 percent women and 30 percent minorities, and more than 50 percent of the leadership team is female. This is one of many reasons the company was named as a 2018 Best Place to Work in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare. Many tech companies create initiatives and programs to promote diversity but their leadership often doesn’t reflect those goals.

WorkWave: Focus on the Inputs
Outside of being the right thing to do for employees, I have a core belief that curating a culture that aligns and supports a company’s mission and vision is critical to creating long term value. I put that belief to the test when I joined WorkWave (formerly Marathon Data Systems) in 2008 and the results speak for themselves. In my 10 years as CEO, we transformed WorkWave through significant investment and 11 strategic acquisitions.
T-ROC: The #1 Ingredient in the Company Culture Recipe
One of the most important pieces of the company puzzle, to me, has always been building my company’s culture around the people who work here. From structuring dress codes to planning group events, every decision is carefully considered to reflect what our employees enjoy and appreciate. The best marketing tool for a company is your employees, so at T-ROC, we have created an environment that emphasizes personal and professional growth, balance, and fun.
Headsets.com: Hopping on a Flight to Improve the Culture
San Francisco is a great city to start a business, but it’s hell on the bottom line when you’re shipping to anywhere except Southern California. So we started planning for a more strategic shipping center. After looking around some, we decided on Nashville, Tennessee.
