T-ROC: The #1 Ingredient in the Company Culture Recipe

By Brett Beveridge, CEO

One of the most important pieces of the company puzzle, to me, has always been building my company’s culture around the people who work here. From structuring dress codes to planning group events, every decision is carefully considered to reflect what our employees enjoy and appreciate. The best marketing tool for a company is your employees, so at T-ROC, we have created an environment that emphasizes personal and professional growth, balance, and fun.

The People of T-ROC

The T-ROC family is entirely a team of entrepreneurs. Because ever “T-ROCer” is encouraged to dive into problems –– big or small –– and find ways to solve them, innovation and creativity are probably our most highly prized attributes. In addition to innovation and creativity, we‘ve found that people with the following fundamental traits are successful at T-ROC.

  • Fast and flexible.

  • Positive and optimistic.

  • Smart and energetic.

  • Friendly and caring.

  • Help others be successful and celebrate their victories.

  • Don’t tolerate mediocrity, negativity, or pessimism.

  • Are accountable to themselves, their colleagues and our customers.

Invest in Your People

My business motto is to invest in people — I’m committed to giving T-ROCers the training and tools they need to succeed and be promoted from within. Decisions don’t come down from the top; team members are encouraged to use their own sound judgement and make decisions according to their own knowledge and understanding of how the company would react. Through a variety of initiatives and efforts, we are very fortunate to have been voted one of the “Best Places to Work” three times in-a-row by the South Florida Business Journal.

Over the course of founding more than a dozen companies, I’ve come to realize many key considerations when it comes to building and supporting a successful team. A few of those are…

  • Always be transparent with your employees and over-communicate with them about the strengths and weaknesses of the company.

  • Everyone needs to feel like they’re serving a purpose, so it’s important that everyone is on the same page and working together toward a shared goal.

  • I believe in “reverse mentoring,” which means I rely on my fellow T-ROCers to advise and teach me new things. I have found that asking for their insight and expertise on things such as improving social media, not only benefits the company, but gives them a feeling of value and purpose too.

  • Finally, I always take the time to get to know my team. They become my family.

Reward Your People

The team and I developed three unique initiatives to help retain and reward T-ROCers: We have an Employee Referral Program, which empowers employees to earn unlimited, additional income and choose a strong team; Tickets at Work, which provides employees with discounts to theme parks, concerts, movies and more; and LifeMart, which offers employees great deals on hotels, car rentals, electronics, and restaurants. These paired with in-office perks like flexible schedules plus birthday and holiday celebrations allow us to all enjoy our jobs while being a productive unit.

We win and lose together. There are no secrets by the water fountain and we think big to become bigger together. All T-ROCers are encouraged to take risks and be different. When success happens, it is loudly celebrated and when failures happen our leaders and team are accountable together. We don’t take shortcuts and we only feel accomplished if we do it together, and do it right.

It’s a team effort and it’s the T-ROC culture.
